DFID Conference interviews

 

We started by reporting live from a conference in London on 9 and 10 March 2009, Eliminating World Poverty: Building our Common Future. Here, we interviewed Sir Bob Geldof and Foreign Secretary, David Miliband.

Nineteen-year-old Chris Cooper started by asking Sir Bob about perceptions of the world's poorest countries and the role they have in global economic recovery.

    Sixteen-year-old Attia Iqtadar asked the Foreign Secretary what young people could take away from the conference and what can be achieved at the London Summit


  • Heather Kitt and Chris Cooper interview Douglas Alexander MP, Secretary of State for International Development
Asked about the role of young people in international development, Douglas Alexander said the world needed their idealism, ideas and willingness to get involved.


  • Attia Iqtadar speaks to Saif Ahmad from Muslim Aid
Asked about Muslim Aid’s role at the conference, Saif Ahmad says it is to mobilise the energy of young Muslims so they too can play their part in the work to help eradicate poverty, drawing on Islamic principles.

The DFID Youth Reporters are participating in specialist content-creation workshops, day-long edit sessions and are being matched with experienced journalist and film-maker mentors. The team come from Platform2, DFID’s Youth Board (made up of representatives from youth boards of leading international charities as part of DFID’s CSO Children and Youth Network), and Live Futures.
