Head of Government
Abhisit Vejjajiva has been Prime Minister of Thailand since December 2008. At 44 years old he is one of the youngest prime ministers in Thai history. Leader of the Democrat Party since 2005, he rose to political and public prominence as Democrat party spokesman in the early 1990's. Before going into politics full-time, he lectured in economics at Thammasat University in Thailand.
Abhisit was born in 1964 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in northern England. He has a first-class degree in politics, philosophy and economics and a masters degree in economics from the University of Oxford. Mr Abhisit is married and has two children.

The Nation says that the G20 leaders backed ‘extensive reforms’. It highlighted the reform of the IMF and World Bank to ensure they serve ‘as sure foundations for sustainable globalization and rising prosperity for all’.
In an opinion column, the The Nation says emerging nations will emerge stronger after G-20. ‘Suffice to say, whatever transpires from the G-20 meeting this time will benefit developing countries as never before.’
The Bangkok Post said that the ‘massive’ extra announced by the G20 would usher in a 'new world order'.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiv gave a very useful input, as chair of Asean, to the preparation of the London Summit of G20 countries on April 2, according to The Nation. It quoted a 'diplomat' saying: 'He and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown agreed on the importance of working together on a macro-economic stimulus plan, reforming the international financial institutions and of taking a firm stand against protectionism. They agreed to keep in touch in the run-up to the summit, which Khun Abhisit will be attending as chair of Asean.'
